That there in the jar is Korean kimchi. I went to see Lindsay this morning when she kindly gave me a sourdough starter plus instructions. She makes the most amazing healthy foods including the kimchi, which is fermented and delicious.
We chatted over subjects far and wide, like you do.
One of the fascinating gems she shared was the fact that if you go to a supermarket with a bakery and ask for fresh yeast they’ll give you it for free. As far as I can google, this is because it’s a live animal and they aren’t allowed to sell live animals.
Lindsay regularly gets hers this way.
Tonight the sourdough is hopefully bubbling away in the kitchen and I’m inspired to eat better and cook more real food. I’m also planning a trip to collect my live animal from the shops. Watch this space…
