3 Ways on How To Make Your Home More Energy-Efficient

January 17, 2021 By Ellen Leave a Comment

If you are concerned about the high energy bills you’re getting lately, it’s time to carry out an energy audit in your home and make it more energy-efficient. Before you look for an expert, you can carry out several changes to reduce power consumption, but call in an expert to carry out the audit if the bill is still high. The specialist checks your energy consumption per room and appliance and gives suggestions on improvement. Sustaining an energy-efficient home doesn’t only lower your power bills but protects the environment as you do your part in supporting an eco-friendly community.

Ensure all Appliances are Running Efficiently

Faulty and old appliances can significantly increase power consumption. It takes a lot more energy to power an old or defective device than a newer one. For instance, if your fridge is faulty, it may need more energy to function, or it may keep on stalling frequently. You may want to find replacement parts for your fridge here and call a technician to repair it. Also, think of replacing older appliances with new, more efficient energy star devices that can use even up to 50% less energy than what you have.

Invest in a Smart Home

Gradual changes that transform your living space into a smart home can significantly lower your energy consumption. You can start with intelligent bulbs that go on when you get into a room and sensor water faucets that ensure water doesn’t drip when not using the taps. As you will realize, you probably let the water run when brushing your teeth or when washing the utensils. But smart faucets ensure the water runs only when in use. Other than intelligent lighting, using greener bulbs gives you a more extended service at a lower cost.

Make Small Home Adjustments

Sealing all ventilations ensures no air leaks out when your heating or cooling system is on. Also, use insulated doors, which will significantly lower the energy used to heat or cool a room. You may be losing up to 50% of power, but a storm door, which can cost as little as $75, can salvage the situation. Also, make sure to carry out proper maintenance practices on the HVAC equipment. Additionally, when you are at work, lower the thermostat by a few degrees. You may reduce power consumption by at least 15% annually. Use a space heater more sparingly. It takes more energy to heat a room when using a space heater. You can instead wear layered clothing or use more blankets.

Use Solar Power

Although the initial investment may be high, solar energy guarantees ready and cheap power after installation. Additionally, you might earn yourself a tax incentive when you install solar energy at your home. You will have the advantage of using solar power to heat your water, rooms, and even as electrical energy to power your home.

If you check your home, you’ll find areas you can improve on energy consumption. A gradual transition to green power will transform your home into an eco-friendly environment and lower the power bills.
