One of the hardest things to do is to motivate yourself off the couch and into the gym. Working out? Well, that can get boring after a while, and the motivation to get up and go? That’s got up and gone! Making it to the cardio classes that you’ve scheduled yourself when you know you don’t like HIIT with a barking instructor means that you can really put yourself off any other type of exercise without intending to.
You are a human and while you need to move your body to feel healthier, you also need to enjoy it when you do! There’s no use going for a run if you’re not a person who wants to run, right? Well, that means that you have to make the effort to figure out an exercise that you will enjoy instead of pushing yourself into something that you won’t. It’s not always easy to find the exercise that you love, though, which is why we’ve got some tips on how to do it.
- Try something new. Whether you are going to try out dance aerobics or you want to look into boxing, trying out new classes will help you to determine whether you like the exercise or not. Don’t knock it till you try it, right? Once you try it, you’ll know for sure if an exercise is for you. Keep an open mind with it, though.
- Get someone to workout with you. When you workout with a friend, you’ll have a lot more fun and you’ll develop a habit of meeting up, working out and then going for a coffee afterwards. Social accountability is usually all you need to get you motivated to stick to your workout long term. When you’re accountable to someone else, you feel the obligation to stick with it!
- Make a point of scheduling your time. Scheduling the exercise that you want to do is a smart thing to do. You’re going to hold yourself to that timeframe and you’ll be more inclined to go and get it done. Ticking things off of a list is a good way to ensure that you are keeping up with all of your goals.
- Keep going at the same time. Where you can, keep to the same time when you work out. You should do this so that your workout schedule becomes a new habit of yours and each day when the regular workout time rolls around, you’ll be feeling like it’s time to go! You’ll also get to know the people who are attending classes at the same time and that can help you to expand your social circle.
- Don’t become impatient. It takes time to see results no matter which workout you pick. Losing weight and getting fit is 80% kitchen-based, but you can bet that you’ll feel those results in time, and you can improve the weight gain with bodybuilding supplements. Giving yourself that time is important, however, and you should be patient about the results of working out so often.
