If I'm going to get something, I usually get it in spades - luck (both kinds), children, clutter, dirty laundry, bright ideas, daft ideas...

5 Unique Hobbies for Children

October 9, 2022 By Ellen

Thinking of different hobbies and activities to explore can seem like a chore, but there are plenty of options out there. Here are 5 suggestions that this private school in Surrey recommends.

1 – Board games

Playing board games casually helps with your child’s understanding of strategy and having fun, but it can also grow into an engaging hobby. Start by exploring different board games and which ones interest your child the most. Explore card games and other more interactive games to see which they prefer.

2 – Cycling

Going out for a long cycle is a great way to get in touch with the senses. Make it an event by heading out each weekend and seeing what awaits in the countryside, surrounding hills or even just in the local area. Ask your child if they’d like to explore somewhere new.

3 – Collecting fossils or shells

If you live near an area that’s filled with beaches, then why not head down to some areas where there could be fossils? This is a great way to help your child learn about the history of our world, especially when it comes to dinosaurs. Shells are also another option to start collecting – there are many different shells out there your child would love to pick up.

4 – Making objects with polymer clay

Something really accessible and engaging is making things with polymer clay. All you need to do is make the object – whether it’s a cow, duck, or something really unique to your child – pop it in the oven. Once it’s cooked your child can use them however they like.

5 – Sketching and drawing

Drawing is a good way to help your child learn about art, but it’s also something that can be used to help your child manage their mental health. It’s a good tool of escapism, and if your child really enjoys art and making, this may be the perfect hobby for them.
