Hope – 100 words

February 14, 2023 By Ellen

Hope

There’s an old man buying flowers

twisted fingers fumbling for change,

I smile and hope

they are welcomed

with a kiss

and put into the same glass vase she’s used for years –

a wedding present –

because then I’ll know that love can be true

and not just a story told to sell cards

and keep everyone in their places.

I hope her blue eyes meet his

and she holds him like they just met last night

and he’s the handsome lad bringing her roses

and possibilities.

And that in the end

It turned out just the way he promised.
