In a bun dance

If I'm going to get something, I usually get it in spades - luck (both kinds), children, clutter, dirty laundry, bright ideas, daft ideas...

Strings attached – 100 words

February 15, 2023 By Ellen

Strings attached

My love is unconditional –

an animal born in viscera.

Hardwired.

Evolved.

Oxytocin enchantment distracted me

from my enslavement.

The journey began

with keeping that outraged and unshelled tyrant alive.

Hormone drunk, I vowed to nourish and protect –

no matter what –

and my noble intention did endure

the most unreasonable of circumstances,

of expectations and advice,

and tear-stained failures.

My intuition was flawed and

my energy ran out.

But everyone survived and then one day:

‘You look tired mum,

sit down,

can I make you some tea?’

And I realised

that I wouldn’t change things

even if I could.
