In a bun dance

If I'm going to get something, I usually get it in spades - luck (both kinds), children, clutter, dirty laundry, bright ideas, daft ideas...

Strangers – 100 words

March 14, 2023 By Ellen Leave a Comment

Strangers

It’s a small hot room for waiting in. Brightly lit. A woman comes out of the treatment room. We’re at the physio – she’s been, I’m going.

There’s a flash of familiarity. A look, a colour, a scarf. Connections nudge my brain.

“Hello, how are you?”

She smiles. Her nudge reaction triggered in response.

“I’m very well. How are you?”

Then in that instant we realise we’ve never seen each other before in our lives. We just look like the kind of people we might have known.

“I, er. Sorry. I can’t… Must go.”

“Yes, me too. Bye.”

Ghost smiles linger.
