Snow joke when you’ve got a sledge to try out…

February 10, 2012 By Ellen

Winter in Scotland. Brrr. Snow, traffic mayhem, wooly socks and not quite getting round to buying those grippy things for your shoes again.

That’s what I thought when, back last year, I was offered an inflatable sledge to test drive. Well, not for me you understand. For the Boys, who are all partial to whizzing downhill with no regard for stopping or personal safety.

Boy One, whose old sledge wore out last year, was particularly delighted and fell to unpacking the sledge and getting it ready to use immediately.

The sledge we were sent is inflatable, penguin-shaped, cute and still stored in a corner of Boy One’s bedroom. “When’s it going to snow?”

I don’t know when it’s going to snow, or even if it’s going to. So far we have barely seen even a flake here. The golf course is still full of golfers and my feet have started to get a bit warm in my toasty boots.

And what’s worse is that there is snow in the south – you lot down there have buckets full of it. You can sledge and have snowball fights. (This might be an opportunity to have a dig about how the UK-wide media sometimes gets a bit fixated on what’s happening in the London area, but I will resist the urge.)

So for the moment I can’t answer any questions about how fast the sledge goes, what happens when a grown-up tries it or how cool it looks on the snow.

But if you live in the south and want to try them they are made by Snow Boogie, cost £12.00 and are available from Firebox.
