In a bun dance

If I'm going to get something, I usually get it in spades - luck (both kinds), children, clutter, dirty laundry, bright ideas, daft ideas...

I am a bit of a Loch Lomond anorak. There appear to be four islands here but there are actually five. The wee one on the left is Crairinsh which was owned by the Buchanan clan for hundreds of years. The big island in the middle is INchcailloch which means Island of the Old Woman. It has a medieval burial ground where many McGregor clan chiefs are buried, including Rob Roy's cousin. There was a church there for about 500 years. I scattered my mother's ashes at the summit there in January. The other islands are Torrinch (it looks connected to Inchcailloch in the picture), Creinch and Inchmurrin which is the biggest island on any inland waterway in Great Britain. I was out on the loch myself on Sunday http://bigrab.wordpress.com/2012/04/15/view-from-canoe-4/

Actually six because you can see a wee bit of Inchfad on the right too.

Thanks Rab. We could have done with your wisdom while we were up there on Saturday wondering about it all. It's a very beautiful place.

As you rightly point out Ellen, it's the highland fault line. The relatively flat lowlands on the left and the Highlands with Glen Luss and Bens Lomond and Vorlich on the right.

I had never appreciated that you can actually see the line before. It said so in the new(ish) visitors' centre at Balmaha.

Thank you – but the scenery rather must take the credit rather than the photographer.
