Craig’s not going to the ball this year… |
Poor Craig Chalmers. He has just been sacked from his next job, Playing Prince Charming in patio in Dunfermline.
Craig was doing ever so well. Since appearing on Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Any Dream Will Do he had established himself as a talented performer.
I took my kids to see him in Joseph a couple of years ago. In my mind he wasn’t a patch on Jason Donovan, but that probably says more about me than his performance.
Since then he’d hardly been out of work and was just about to start a lucrative slipper-fitting gig.
So, what went wrong?
Someone – anonymous – had noticed that Craig has a bit of a sideline as Ryan Ryder, star of adult movies and owner of large equipment and, ahem, assured performance. So they told theatre bosses who promptly told Craig to sling his hook while the world sniggered at the panto porno star headlines.
But I’m a bit baffled about why it should mean that he must hand over his doublet and hose to his understudy.
Apparently, the fact that he sometimes gets his dick out to have sex on film for the adults who like that kind of thing means he isn’t a suitable person to pretend to try a shiny shoe on a man dressed as a woman in front of children. Go figure.
Its not like he will get his jobs mixed up one day and really give the children reason to yell “he’s behind you”. Kids won’t be aware in any way that Prince Charming sometimes has a ball of a very different kind.
Speaking of balls, this is complete bollocks.
Why shouldn’t Craig make a few quid as Ryan while he can without being punished for it?
This is knee jerk nonsense of the very worst kind. Just because in an entirely different organisation a very unpleasant man’s abuses have been overlooked for years, doesn’t mean that what another man does for consenting adults is anywhere near the same thing.
Where will it stop? If we have anything to do with children, does it mean we can’t do something adult from time to time?
I have friends who write erotica to make some money, are they to be banned from the school gates?
Utter rubbish. The point of being an adult (there has to be one after all) is that we are mature enough to know what we should be doing and when. Within the law our choices are up to us and we shouldnt’ be punished for them.
The villain in this piece deserves a big boo for drumming Craig off the stage for something that has nothing to do with his day job.
PS While we’re on the subject let’s consider some of the other panto stars considered suitable to entertain kids. Jim Davidson, Pamela Anderson, The Krankies, Linda Lusardi, Denise Welsh and Julian Clary to name a few.

I hadn't heard of this story, how absolutely stupid. I did want to enter a few swear words but I fear I might have been banished from the school gate if I did!
Ellen Arnison says
That would, of course, make you totally unsuitable to be around children!
Charlotte says
The problem is that he is actively still a porn star and not ex.As an adult he must make a choice and must also realise that these two jobs would never blend.Though the children will not realise the adults will. Some occupations should remain seperate
IncognitoLinda says
Sorry Charlotte, I don't understand your reasoning.
Say, for example, I work in an office through thte week and at weekends I make cakes and sell them. Everyone in work knows this and in fact, sometimes people from work buy my cakes. No one minds this, as long as I don't go and start baking in the office. Which, of course, I wouldn't do.
Adults may be familiar with some of this man's 'other' work. But unless he forgets which job he's doing at that particular time, why is it an issue?
Ellen Arnison says
I'm not sure why these jobs can't blend. What he does outside of the pantomime stage is surely his own business.
Ellen Arnison says
I agree. I don't see why there's a problem.

He has sex with strangers for money while being filmed then is a performer for children..he isn't doing anything as clean as making cakes..he works in the sex industry! What if he was a vicar during the day or a teacher..it doesn't blend..it doesn't make him a bad person just that he can't do both..choose
IncogntioLinda says
Obviously you've never seen me bake! Clean is the last word I'd use 😉
But on a serious note – he does adult things with and for consenting adults. He doesn't throw it in people's faces. Why shouldn't someone be able to have a diverse career if they so choose? It's not currupting anyone.
IMHO Vicars and teachers and anyone else who is of an age to be considered an adult is perfectly entitled to live as they see fit. As long as they are appropriate in each situation, obviously. Why should they be morally above a factory worker, for example? Why does the sex industry cause such a big reaction? Anyone would think most people didn't ever have sex! I mean, are you allowed to have sex while being a parent? Surely doing such 'unclean' things precludes you from having children in your house? They're far more likely to see you doing something than they are this guy on stage at a panto for goodness' sake.
Are you going to call for Big Cook Ben and Little Cook Small to be taken off the air next? They do a very blue comedy rountine, you know. That might corrupt the children who are watching. The same ones who know nothing of its existence. The same ones who would go to this panto…

Too many typos today. *scolds fingers*

I have just written about JS (he who shall not be named) as the whole thing sickens me.
In this country we oscillate between letting JS get away with it, and then doing something like what you have described above.
It is like….. oh I haven't even got the words to describe the hypocrisy.
I know because we are made to feel prudish I didn't even think of having a bath with my son when he was a baby, till someone pointed out she did it with hers.
I think we all need to have a healthy relationship to what is acceptable, and stop hitting the WRONG people over the head.
GREAT post btw.

This made me laugh out loud! And for the record, I felt rather sorry for him. The guy is clearly trying to make a living using his *ahem* talents where he can. If any of the kids recognise him from his 'non-panto' work then its surely their parents at fault, not anyone else. And honestly, at least he's getting paid for it, many children idolise racists and adulterers in the form of professional footballers but they are allowed to keep their jobs (in the most part..).

Couldn't have put it better myself. Well done for highlighting hypocrisy.

Great post and raised a great debate. As for me I totally agree with the post.
Ellen Arnison says
I don't see a problem because the children in the audience are unaware of his other employment.
Ellen Arnison says
Hi Liska, I totally agree – relationships have to be healthy and appropriate.
Ellen Arnison says
Indeed. I totally agree – there is no way a child should know him from his other job. And, surely, someone who is making the best of what they have should be applauded!
Ellen Arnison says
Thanks.

Thanks.

Clean was probably the wrong word ..I mean wholesome maybe..I don't have any problem with him being a porn star that is his choice I just don't think he can do both jobs without somebody judging it and the sex you have with your partner at home is nothing like the sex in a porn fim as in most cases it involves love and is a very natural thing if your child happens to realise and I would never consider my kids unclean or sex for that matter but what he does is a job and a choice to have cold sex and get paid to do so and to suggest that the sex industry doesn't corrupt is nieve..I just think he must have know the somewhere in his career he would have to choose.Talent doesn't even come into it..please! Just sometimes you can't have it all..his reputation will not hold up as well as a porn star against a theatre actor..just fact..it's real hard cold sex not acting or feeling…again his choice but a choice. To suggest that this has anything to compare to JS in wrong..I would never say he would be a predator to children or anyone just because he worked in porn at all..completely different ..I am sure he is a lovely lad

I agree with most of the comments, and believe me he is a lovely lad. I've met him on several occasions and he has always been very polite and appreciative of his fans. My 10 year old granddaughter has also met him and has travelled the country with me to see him in Joseph and his last two pantomimes. There are many 'stars' who have been involved in porn in one way or another and they are still entertaining children and young people. This is just a knee jerk reaction (because of JS) from the holier than thou brigade.

I have travelled 6 000 miles the last 2 years to watch Craig perform in Panto and Joseph. I have met him many times and he is a wonderful person and amazing performer. I agree with anonymous above that, because of the JS saga, his cross-over to his new 'career' has been blown out of proportion. Craig is doing nothing wrong by trying to earn a decent wage. At least he's off benefits and not a burden to tax-payers. His new career is not something I would be interedted in but will always support Craig to the end of the world. In other words, I will always support CC not RR.
