Boy Two’s birthday bike has had its first outing, briefly between showers. He’s very excited and I’m looking forward to pedalling with him too.
However, as the title of the post might suggest there’s another layer to this one. Life is a cycle, rolling on but not always straight and true.
I’m reflective this evening. Boy One – the 13-year-old, second year pupil – came home from school to tell me that someone at school died today.
Oh.
Heartbreakingly, in a house not so far from here the parents of a 14-year-old third year girl are dealing with the most devastating news.
It’s not my story to tell, but I sorrow for them and reflect that nothing is for certain and, therefore, every day must be seized and every moment cherished.
Next time Boy Two invites me to come cycling with him, or Boy One wants to share a nugget of knowledge or their little brother wants to ensnare me in one of his makebelives I will try very hard to remember this post and say: “Yes, of course.”
