This was for supper as part of my ongoing campaign to turn my sons into well-rounded omnivores rather than developmentally stunted fish finger addicts.
Boy One struggles to eat a varied diet because his Aspergers comes with sensory issues. He finds slippery foods and unpredictable lumps intolerable. Consequently Boy Two spent far too long being allowed to scoff only beige processed pap. And in turn Boy Three has learned to turn his nose up at green, varied tucker.
When term started again I launched another healthy eating drive, acknowledging Boy One’s difficulties.
We agreed a list of foods that they would have a go at on the basis they could have more or less what they want at the weekends. They agreed to try everything without moaning and I agreed not to nag or cajole.
On our list are:
Home made burgers – fish/chicken/beef/whatever plus beans and veggies whizzed up and shaped into patties.
Pasta and sauce – liquidise sauce ingredients before cooking.
Fish pie
Noodles
Home made pasta
Mild curry
Chinese food minus lumps and plus prawn toast.
And so far, so good with the boys trying everything and me biting my lip not to say anything if they don’t.
