In a bun dance

If I'm going to get something, I usually get it in spades - luck (both kinds), children, clutter, dirty laundry, bright ideas, daft ideas...

245/365 selfie with cold sore

September 2, 2013 By Ellen

I’m sharing in the hope it’ll make me feel better about it.

I have a horrible cold sore which, as you can see, is especially attractive.

I haven’t had a monster like this for almost a decade and quite frankly another one before 2023 would be too soon.

If you haven’t run screaming, I’d love to hear your remedies because I’m getting desperate…

All I can suggest now is alcohol-based remedies to (painfully) dry it out. My niece, who used to be prey to horrible cold sores, swears by liquorice balm (available online) which you use as a regular lip balm to stop them even starting.

Thanks I've been trying them. Although I haven't tried liquorice – would allsorts do?

Alcohol based remedies so that you don't care any more would seem like a good idea too. You could combine with allsorts.

    Hope it b*ggers off soon.

My other half uses Zorivax – no idea if it's any good, but it's stopped the 'entire upper lip' breakouts he used to have that made it look as though he'd been repeatedly punched in the mouth. He has to use it early in a breakout though, so possibly too late for you?

Sorry, no other advice to offer!

Oh no! Has it gone? I had a 'thing' like that on my chin once (it never came back) and it really, really hurt 🙁 I had to have antibiotics in the end. Hope it's cleared up. I had to go to a tribunal (for a client) with mine and the medical officer that was there on the other side told me to go to the Dr about it!!
