261/365 A year until referendum night

September 18, 2013 By Ellen

This time next year, where will we be? Teetering on the brink of colossal upheaval or not?

I’m fairly sure I’ll be glued to the telly, watching the results roll in – waiting to see what the future holds. Independence: yes or no.

Between now and then, though, there is certain to be enough hot air on every single facet of the thing to create – if it could be harnessed – an innovative new energy source. There will be spinning, smears and weasely words. And if you were a bit bored by it all, brace yourself for world class tedium, dull beyond your wildest dreams.

As far as I can see there will be claims, counter claims, speculation and even some made up stuff. The actual things we want to know – facts and that – are impossible. Without the fact of Independence, negotiation and a new nation’s parliament it’s only wishes and promises.

How can we know what to do then, this day next year?

It strikes that it comes down only to the personalities. Which people do you want to speak on your behalf? Do you think the ones urging ‘yes’ are good enough for what comes after? Or are we ‘better together’ with politicians facing a less monumental upheaval?

To tell the truth I’ve no idea, but by next September I’ll have made my mind up. Yes or no?
