One year my dad gave me a lovely shiny Thermos for Christmas. It wasn’t very big and it was my first grown-up vacuum flash. It re-launched an interest in hillwalking as, inspired by visions of hot ‘proper’ Feliz Coffee to warm a Munro top, I joined a hillwalking group.
Obviously, a hot beverage on a chilly day can be better than wonderful and an insulated mug for the car that does not leak is essential.
This year I’ve been sent a brace of flasks to try out.
The first is bigger than I’d have picked, but I am swayed by the handle, much welcomed by frozen fumbly fingers. Eldest son and Explorer Scout ‘borrowed’ it for a recent night exercise and revealed that his station and the hot chocolate he’d brought were very popular.
Official blurb: Keep drinks hot for up to 24 hours with the Genuine Thermos Brand 1.2L Vacuum Insulated Beverage Flask, available in midnight blue, matte black and cranberry from Argos, Debenhams, John Lewis and Thermos.co.uk (£24.99 to £30 RRP).
The other, girly pink and wide-necked, is going to be the very thing for taking healthy food to work, should I ever get my act together. The Panther of News used it to take his lunch to work and said:
“I would like to confirm that the flask works wonderfully, 3.5 hours after putting the stuff in it was still too hot to eat with blowing on it. Could do with being bigger mind, as am hungry now. Goulash is grand, spicy but really good.”
Official blurb: Proving that winter needn’t be dark and grey, the 290ml Genuine Thermos Brand Vacuum Insulated Fashion Food Flask is ultra compact and lightweight, offering a stylish al Desko meal. It is available in striking matte purple and cherry blossom from Thermos.co.uk (£16.99 RRP).
Not sure what fashion food is, though.
