Trivial insights in the offing

This week, reading Amy Liptrot’s The Outrun, I learned where the phrase ‘in the offing’ comes from.

The offing is the most distant but visible part of the sea before the horizon and a ship ‘in the offing’ is on its way.

Equally fascinating but pointless, is this infographic from Jamie’s Italian about how the different types of pasta got their names.
