Hurrah! The Beast From The East has finally arrived and all schools in the region have been shut. The view from the window is blizzardy. It’s probably a bit chilly, but I haven’t ventured out yet.
I’m listening to a radio phone-in of people reporting the whiteness where they are (not that interesting after the first few) and pondering the day ahead.
What to do.
Blog. Obviously, when in doubt blog it out. Maybe it’s just me, but it is both therapeutic and procrastinatory (is that a word?).
Call it Christmas. It’s like the festive season without all the annoying shopping and visitors. All the family at home with no opportunity to do anything else except donate the day to eating and watching telly. We might even get the Monopoly out.
Catch up on the chores. I suggested this to Family Bundance and they weren’t keen. Hard to understand, because it’s the perfect opportunity to do all those tedious chores that we don’t normally have time to do. If we get our acts together we could find ourselves free of cobwebs, dead lightbulbs, clutter and punctured bike tyres.
Make snow ice cream. All that pristine white looks yummy, doesn’t it? Well the good news is that you can eat it. Have you ever tried snow ice cream? Here’s a recipe. It’s not really that delicious, but it is quite fun and gives a good excuse for guddling around with condensed milk. My top tip is to get some actual ice cream too.
Build an insta-snowman. Make like Elsa and build a new playmate. Only you should know that it’s no longer good enough to make an approximate heap of the white stuff topped with a carrot and an old hat. Oh no. You’ve got to sculpted with it and put the result on social media. In the next few days, I anticipate a rash of rude and funny snow creations in all my feeds.
Make plans. What better opportunity for getting your heads together and doing some long-term planning. As long as your wifi isn’t affected by the weather, you can plot to your hearts’ content. Decide on travel, home improvements, projects and then figure out how you’re going to bring them to life – try a Zippa Loan, saving up, robbing a bank.
Whatever you do, keep it cosy and have fun.
