Where’s mummy?
She can’t be far away, it’s not a very big house.
Where’s mummy?
Have you tried the kitchen? She’s often there.
Where’ s mummy?
At her desk, trying to hit a deadline… No?
Where’s mummy?
Putting washing in the machine. Taking washing out of the machine. Folding washing. Occasionally ironing it.
Where’s mummy?
Gone outside to put rubbish in the bin. Or pick it up from the garden if someone forgot to put the bin lid on.
Where’s mummy?
She might play with you when she’s tidied up.
Where’s mummy?
Listen, is that the hoover? Follow the noise…
Where’s mummy?
She might be in the loo. With the door locked, ignoring you.
Where’s mummy?
Is she finishing off one of your chores?
Where’s mummy?
If you want your Lego man’s sword, it’s in that toy box. Did you try to find it?
Where’s mummy?
She’ll have no idea why your text won’t send/file won’t download.
Where’s mummy?
Look in all the rooms, there aren’t that many.
Where’s mummy?
Of course she isn’t watching telly or napping.
Where’s mummy?
Have you tried turning it off and on again. At the plug.
Where’s mummy?
It’s in your schoolbag/cupboard/where you left it.
Where’s mummy?
It’s the same as it was the last time you were told… five minutes ago.
Where’s mummy?
She doesn’t really care who started it.
Where’s mummy?
Did you put it in the laundry basket.
Where’s mummy?
Why don’t YOU Google it.
Where’s mummy?
Nope. Not until after supper.
Where’s mummy?
Shout really loudly, she might be on the phone.
Where’s mummy?
Have you looked? Really looked? With your looking eyes?
Where’s mummy?
What’s that? You can’t find her…
Where’s mummy?
Maybe she’s hiding…
Where’s mummy?
Maybe she’s listening…
Where’s mummy?
Maybe she waiting…
Where’s mummy?
When she’s hears pleasant children, attempting to sort their own stuff out, she might come out….
But then again.
Where’s mummy?

I expect you're right. Though a day or two off would be nice.

Lovely! I'm writing a project about Mums that Leave their children. But I'm also interested in how all of us can be absent when we are present. Not even just through distractions like smart phones, or something we may be stewing on internally. But also just through trying to do everything for them at the same time – which you show beautifully.

Hi Noami,
Thanks. you're right – the longer you are physically present, the harder it is to maintain actual presence.
