Car Tyre Safety Tips for Visiting London and other cities

During the summer months, plenty of people visit the capital either on their way through to another holiday destination or to enjoy everything that the city has to offer for themselves. Whether you are visiting the capital in its own right or simply passing through the city, it is important to note that London has some of the most challenging road conditions of anywhere in Western Europe. Firstly, London’s dense population means that the roads are crowded, very crowded, in fact. Secondly, there are lots of bus lanes and cycle lanes in the city which often catch motorists out who are not expecting them. Then, there are the congestion charge and emission zone to think about. Finally, many of London’s streets – even major trunk routes, in some cases – are in poor condition and have too many potholes to avoid.

All of these road conditions place greater stress on your tyres. If yours are not in mint condition, then you may find that you drive into trouble. What should you do to avoid this and remain safe?

Check Your Tyres for Bulges

Bulging tyres are coming apart and one bump over a speed hump or a bit of debris in the road could cause a blowout. Exchange any that have these defects. If you have discovered bulges in your tyres and now want to replace them – you can book your tyres in London at the DAT TYRES website by clicking here.

Keep Your Tyres Pumped Up

If your tyres are even a little bit flat, then you cannot steer as easily. Flatter tyres spread out on the tarmac and you will find that it is harder to steer around hazards and potholes as a result.

Inspect Your Tread

Partially worn down tyres – even those which are street legal – will mean you cannot brake effectively. In heavy traffic conditions, as you find in the capital, this can be a particular problem. Buy new ones that are beyond their best.
