Christmas – back in the box

This year, I loved the tinsel of it, the treats and the warmth. Even the sigh of relief when it was pared down further to the cosy bones. I relished the pause, the chance to reflect on what a changeling 2020 was. How I was lucky to surf the waves and wash up on a friendly beach.

Probably the best bit of Christmas is at the very end, when it all goes back in the boxes for another year. The way is clear for what the next will bring – not so brash this time, but quiet hopes and promises. When the baubles and plastic branches get to glisten again, things in this world will be a little bit brighter and my part of it has something to be grateful for. See you next year.

Isn’t it cosy?
When you live on a building site, the best thing to do is decorate the fences. There’s probably a metaphor in there somewhere…
