Hotter shoe review
What do you wear for work when you want to look like a grown-up, professional kind of person in your new job, but still not miss the train?
Obviously, the logical answer to this question is to be organised enough not to be late and then you can wear anything you like. Especially grown-up lady-feet heels. But if that was an answer for me, then this post would be written by an entirely different woman – and it’s not.
I’d been pondering this question for a week or so, in a new job (did I mention the new job?) when I was invited to visit Glasgow’s Hotter store’s new home. Still in Buchannan galleries, but a floor up and at the other end.
Work shoes have always been a bit of a struggle, if I’m honest. Even when heels were de regueur and there was a perverse pride in wearing them through the pain, I didn’t know how to do them very well. I would frequently forget about taking care when hurtling across the gravel/fields and wrecking the heels. Not to mention the discomfort. How did I/we do that? And what were we on to think that heels for everything was a badge of honour? How much harder can you hit a glass ceiling if your feet don’t hurt?
Though, obviously, back then, the flat options were – sporty (trainers). Scary (DMs) or babyish (multi-coloured Mary Janes) – and a girl band on your trotters is not a good look.
After much dithering in the very lovely new shop – all comfiness and space – I plumped for York boots in gunmetal. (On a side note, if the festive retail frenzy gets too much for you, just pop into this shop for a breath of calm air and a seat on a sofa)
Here’s what I love about the boots them…
The colour – who knew guns were slightly pink and glittery.
The comfiness – watch me sprint up the platform, actually don’t, but you know what I mean.
The angles – put the elastic and the zip at a slant and you instantly move away from the frumpy zone
The loop – that loop at the back – dunno, but I love it.
The fit – I have found that ankle boots either gape like old ladies’ gardening wellies, and, well, these don’t. They’re very neat. Probably something to do with the aforementioned elastic and zip combo.
