One of the great things about Easter is that you have a theme from which you can have so much fun with the kids. Whether it’s creating something to decorate the home, baking something yummy, or simply playing egg or bunny-related games, both you and the little ones are going to love it. Here are a few ideas to get you started but if you are interested in outdoor activities, consider the help looking at this kids quads for sale.
Arts, crafts and research
Find a nearby tree that’s coming into flower and take a small branch (that has plenty of offshoot twigs) to use as an Easter tree. You can place it in a vase or pot and hang little eggs and decorations from it.
Another fun activity is the traditional craft of dyeing eggs. You just need a little food dye and vinegar, which you add to water. Blow the yolk and egg white out of the egg and soak the egg in the dye. The longer you leave it there, the more intense the colour becomes. You can then put your coloured eggs into nests or hang them from the wall.
There are many other things you could have fun making, such as a colourful bonnet from paper – painted newspaper is a good option. Or you could make an Easter chick from one compartment of an egg box, it’s convenient to order your Easter eggs online in advance, then fill the chick with mini eggs. You can also make a family tree for an interesting and learning experience. There are a number of free genealogy websites to help you build your family tree. It can be fascinating to do detective work and find out where your ancestors came from. Sites such as https://www.genealogybank.com/explore/census/1940-records allow you to explore census records and learn and discover more about your family history.
Baking
There are plenty of foodie activities the kids can help with (and enjoy getting messy in the process!). Try making little Easter bunny biscuits – buy bunny-shaped cookie cutters and your young ones can make the shapes themselves.
There’s plenty of stirring, sprinkling and decorating to be done when you bake hot cross buns or an Easter cake (as well as a bowl of yummy mixture to lick once the rest is in the oven!).
Or you can keep things really simple and get them to help you make chocolate nests with a few mini eggs and little yellow chicks to sit inside.
Games
There are so many Easter-themed games you can play. Why not have the ultimate Easter egg hunt this year? Set your kids clues to find hidden treats all over your home and garden. If you set a challenging enough course, it could keep them entertained for a couple of hours.
If you live near a decent slope, try egg rolling. If using chocolate eggs, put them in sealed bags first, so you don’t lose any bits that inevitably break off. There’s egg push, where you race each other by pushing the egg only with your nose. Or there’s bunny sack racing, where you don a pair of bunny ears, climb into a potato sack or old pillow case and race to the finish line. If you’re on a video call to family or friends you could play virtual bingo. You can get Easter-themed cards online, and you’ll need one person to be the dedicated caller.
There’s no reason why restrictions should ruin your family holidays. In fact, with a bit of ingenuity and creativity, this could be the most enjoyable Easter you’ve ever spent together.
