In a bun dance

If I'm going to get something, I usually get it in spades - luck (both kinds), children, clutter, dirty laundry, bright ideas, daft ideas...

The Benefits of Music Lessons for Children

January 4, 2022 By Ellen

The musical arts play a huge role in our culture, shaping our identities while allowing for creative expression. There are many great benefits of having music lessons for children as a prep school in Surrey shares.

Improved Mood

Music brings us to our feet and helps to improve our mood. This is through the production of dopamine which helps to relieve anxiety and depression. Song writing and other musical activities that allow children to express themselves can also help them in dealing with and channelling their emotions.

Building an Identity

Through music, your child can explore different musical tastes, find like-minded friends and start to build their identity. This can be a great source of comfort and security when going through the turbulence of the teenage years.

A Confidence Boost

While learning a new skill can be challenging, the process of learning and the results are truly worthwhile. As your child masters new techniques with patience and determination, you will see their confidence start to improve. Music lessons also involve performing in front of others which can take your child out of their shell, allowing them to grow into a confident individual.

Help Socialising

Music classes bring different groups of children together in one classroom, allowing them to meet new people and make new friends. The social skills that they’ll take away will help them when transitioning into different environments such as new schools and places of work.

Just Plain Fun

Above all, your child will have fun. The feeling that they’ll get from reaching their goals and experimenting with different sounds cannot be replaced by any other activity. It is a great way to get your child to engage and commit to an extracurricular activity without any fuss and nagging.
