This is not a review, you can make your own minds up, just some images left on my mind.
Black and white. The Tragedy of Macbeth is shot in black and white. Angular, stark, unflinching. Wingbeats of birds and blood drops build the drama, while the dagger is only in Macbeth’s head. Nothing in a single shot is spare, yet it adds up to something beautiful. It’s all the shadows of ambition, betrayal and grief. Colours, it turns out, are for the flighty and lightweight, that’s why there aren’t any in this film.
Brutality without the jollity of crimson blood is more brutal.
With all that chilly castle stone, the heat has to come from the inhabitants with their selfish passions.
I’d rather be a witch than a wife.
Shadows and music tell more of a story than the light does.
I’m very much hoping for a style trend based on this film – studded leather, textured wool and floor-skimming capes.
