After experiencing a pandemic for two years, and its associated lockdowns, many of us found that putting on weight became the norm. That said, there’s no reason why we need to feel bad about this, because after all, times were unprecedented, and we can always work it off.
Heading to the gym and sustaining a regular workout routine can be a great use of your time, no matter if you enjoy taking the spin class, cycling on the bikes, running on the treadmill, using free weights or doing yoga.
One thing is necessary, however. Figuring out exactly what to bring to the gym with you, especially as a newcomer to that environment, is worthwhile. You don’t have to kit up as if you’re being deployed as an action hero overseas of course, but making sure you have a few worthwhile precautions in place can help you.
Of course, this will also depend on your sex, and what kind of exercise you’ll be doing. Let’s consider a few examples for advice:
Medicines If Required
Medicine can be necessary depending on your particular needs. This might involve specialist moisturizers to protect against chafing and other rashes, or gastro treatment can certainly be useful in some situations. Of course, some other goods can be considered ‘preventative medicines,’ not in identification but in terms of what they provide you. Using lifting chalk to grip bars correctly, for instance, can prevent skin tears that may come from dry hands and improper placement. That’s pretty important, potentially helping you avoid pain and other issues. Some supplements may also be worthwhile to keep on hand, such as sports drinks with electrolytes to help you stay hydrated.
Sports Goods
Sports goods will depend on the kind of exercises you want to take part in. For instance, those who hope to lift weights may benefit from a belt designed to keep your spine in proper alignment, while for runners, sweatbands and headphones that won’t fall out of your ears can be worthwhile. A great flask that keeps you hydrated and cool is also quite essential for obvious reasons. Or, yoga pants can be invested in for maximum support and flexibility. One more thing – it can also be worthwhile to bring your own combination padlock just in case they’re not available at the gym.
Appropriate Toiletries
You may shower at the gym or wait until you get home to do it, but small accessories and toiletries can keep you fresh before and after your workout. This might simply be a facial scrub, or something as simple as good deodorant and wet wipes you can use to clean up a little. Depending on how close to home you are and how comfortable you are with using the wider gym facilities, it might just be that a full shower is in the cards on top of that. As you can see, it’s your right to plan your gym experience and the degree to which you interact with all the facilities, ahead of time.
With this advice, you’re sure to make that return to the gym easier to handle.
