In a bun dance

If I'm going to get something, I usually get it in spades - luck (both kinds), children, clutter, dirty laundry, bright ideas, daft ideas...

How to Raise a Compassionate Child

We all want our children to grow up to be kind and compassionate people that we can be proud of. Luckily, it’s something that doesn’t require a lot of work as we’re all born with the instinct to help others. It just needs nurturing and reminding. A prep school in Worcestershire has some wonderful tips on how you can raise a compassionate child which we have shared with you below.

Teach Them to Share

Giving up a toy willingly can be difficult for children and can teach them how to care for those around them. During play, encourage your child to share their toys and play with their siblings or friends. It will teach them how to show kindness to others and help them to build their social skills.

Remind Them to Use Their Manners

Manners show more than politeness. They show an appreciation for others and their feelings which is important when trying to be compassionate. Remind your child to say sorry when they upset others and teach them how to show sensitivity.

Recognising Emotions

To get to that step though, children need to be able to recognise different emotions. To help, you can point them out when you see them so that they can build connections and recognise the different ways that they can look. That can be in person or on TV where they can see different situations unfold.

Self-Compassion

Taking care of yourself is as equally as important. It can be done in many ways from speaking to yourself kindly to treating yourself to a nice and relaxing experience. This is important for good mental health and something that you can teach your child by doing so yourself. That might be by making time for your hobbies and talking to yourself in an uplifting way.
