I had the radio on all day and by the time I got to the afternoon bulletin I conceded, chucked the towel and quit. Gloomy, doomy booming on and on and on: inflation, strikes, women’s rights, politicians who lie, policemen who rape, flights don’t leave and guns kill people. Instead I walked in the woods and the sunlight dappled through the green. A butterfly and wild roses. On the way mossy rocks and bracken too tall to see over. Over there, the lake and the hills looking the same way they ever did. Maybe this is the best news today …
