Clutch control
I’ve had a little car trouble:
My clutch is, in technical terms, stuffed,
the garage man will mend it and, at the same time,
give me the benefit of his not inconsiderable, but yet uninvited, wisdom on
clutches and flywheels and other
oily – and expensive – components.
I don’t care – just fix the thing. Make it go.
‘I’ve never,’ said I, deftly steering a conversation gear change,
‘in 35 years of driving, had a stuffed clutch.’
‘Ah well,’ said garage man, fresh insight to impart,
‘…as you get older, your joints get stiffer and it’s harder to control your clutch properly.’
