It’s good to set goals but sometimes, we’re not always able to meet them. Things can change and set us back. When we do it’s important that we stay positive, reflect so that we can overcome obstacles. It’s so easy to quit and give up, and your child may feel like doing the same sometimes. Here are a few ways that you can help keep them motivated and overcome their obstacles.
This post was put together with the help of an independent school in Milton Keynes.
Set a Good Example
There will be times where you also run into obstacles. You can use them as an opportunity to teach your child to tackle them head on. Set a good example by not running away and persevering.
Look for Silver Linings
Sometimes things can happen for the greater good. They provide us opportunities to learn and develop new skills. This can be a refreshing way to look at an obstacle and help children in finding the motivation to complete tasks that they’re struggling with.
Optimism
It’s also the way that we choose to look at things. Positive framing and an optimistic mindset can help children to not get so discouraged when obstacles come their way.
Revisit Their Goals
Going back to goals, they can help motivate children. If your child has a particular goal that they’re working towards, revisit it to see how far they’ve come and what their motivations were for setting it in the first place. This can give them a little confidence boost and the motivation they need to plough forwards.
Give your Child a Hand
If your child’s struggling, why not lend them a hand where you can and are allowed? That might be to offer hints, or a new perspective.
We hope this post offers an idea as to how you can help your child. Words of encouragement also go a long way, so give your child a little reassurance and show them your support.
