Discrepancy
One day I learned that my husband
had been gay all along
so when he said ‘I do’
what he really meant was
‘You’ll do to hide behind’.
I know it wouldn’t be nice
to be out in 1992 when
even Elton’s closet had just closed behind him.
But imagine how it felt to be used
like that and then to smile and say
‘no, I didn’t know, not a bit,
but, well, it must have been tough for him’.
Was he just as frightened then, I wonder,
as I am now of the power of my own uncorked rage?
