Mindset
I’m done with making peace:
with seeing rainbows in the
oily scum of dish water
with the scented softness of tumble dryer fluff
in the symmetry of a spreadsheet
in the swooping freedom city canyon seagulls
viewed from a fifth floor office
Instead:
I want the uneven paths and
wind blasted mountains, eye-level with eagles
I want the ragged inhalation as I blink under stage lights
and hope for applause
I want ‘hello, you look interesting, tell me your story’
I want to discover what I’m here for
by trial and error
Peace can wait until I’m good and ready
