Solstice – 100 words

June 5, 2023 By Ellen

Solstice

We grow like plants towards the light –

straining, strong,

blood-sap rising,

our vein-visible leaf-tips fluttering up,

reaching, rushing, straight overhead, meeting beating down sun

at its highest, balanced and

bringing fire to earth – a smouldering

manifestation of living energy.

My growing, glowing plant centre

can sense the neck-cricking pull

to the heart of the solar system.

Did you feel it, too?

Our ancient wisdom, lost

and drifting is easy to resist,

when we are insulated by progress and

enlightenment.

I hope it’s only dormant – a seed

coiled in the dark of a human soul

waiting for more favourable conditions.
