A visit from my imaginary lover – 100 words

January 21, 2024 By Ellen

A visit from my imaginary lover

They came to my house and I surprised myself by opening the door for them. They said ‘I see you’, and I said ‘I doubt it, your kind never do. And don’t think I’ll tidy up before we have tea’.

We had tea sitting on hard seats because I won’t talk and drink and lounge all at once. It’s one of my deficiencies, I explained. Along with:

the need for a plan

a yearning for spontaneous, snowflake-on-eyelash adventures

saying yes with resentment

eating with self-loathing

judging

and saying ‘no thanks’ then scoffing half of your pudding.

‘I see’, they said.
