In a bun dance

If I'm going to get something, I usually get it in spades - luck (both kinds), children, clutter, dirty laundry, bright ideas, daft ideas...

41/365 Holding hands during a 6D experience

February 10, 2013 By Ellen

That’s Boy Three and I holding hands like fury during the 6D Experience motion thrill ride. It might have looked like we were strapped into large plastic chairs in the middle of a self-important shopping centre, but really we were chasing the bad guys through a game reserve. Actually, it’s easy to be sniffy about it […]

Operation Movie Night… the road to a better film

February 10, 2013 By Ellen

It all began at my book group. One of the members suggested her sons loved Stand By Me – the coming-of-age drama starring River Phoenix. Great idea. One of the pleasures of having teen and near teen kids is taking them to see cool stuff you actually want to. So the Panther of News had prowled off […]

Gazza and me, there’s nothing in the stars

February 9, 2013 By Ellen

It’s pitiful, isn’t it? That footage of former footballing hero, and now washed-up drunk, Paul Gascoigne shaking and swearing his way through a pubic appearance.Above the shocked gasps the sound of a wagon accelerating rapidly away could clearly be heard. Gazza’s on the pop again. So what? Another fallen star who can’t seem to say no to […]

39/365 The season kicks off again

February 8, 2013 By Ellen

And it’s back to Friday night training and Saturdays on the touchline. Well, in the most part it’s the Panther of News who does Beautiful Game related duties, what with him being a much over-looked midfield genius, or something.

38/365 As green as a kiwi

February 7, 2013 By Ellen

Now, thanks to Boy Three, we have kiwis and no  one particularly interested in eating them. Funny, surprising things kiwis. I’m often struck by how hairy and testicle-like (testicular?) they look, then they are always greener than I anticipated and, finally, they taste better than I remembered.

Forget the terrible twos, the threes are far worse…

February 7, 2013 By Ellen

Boy with a super plunger, of course  “It’s Thursday, so you go to nursery,” I answered Boy Three’s question about what kind of day it was.  “Noooo,” he bellowed. “Not Thursday. No.” “But there’s a Thursday every week.” “Waaaaaah. Noooo,” and he collapsed into loud sobbing.  After a while he controlled himself and hiccoughed: “I […]

Review: Scooby-Doo Hide and Seek

February 7, 2013 By Ellen

It was once put to me that every boys’ game is a variation on hide and seek – from peepo to more extreme adventure games.  It certainly is a game that doesn’t lose it’s appeal, however badly it’s played.  Boy Three’s version consists of hiding in the same place each time, giggling loudly and […]
