In a bun dance

If I'm going to get something, I usually get it in spades - luck (both kinds), children, clutter, dirty laundry, bright ideas, daft ideas...

Park life – 100 words

February 10, 2023 By Ellen

Park life

Have you noticed that parking spaces

have got thinner?

Years ago, I’d zoom straight in

dead centre, first time.

No need for experimental door pushing –

fingers round the end –

or visions of dented Telsa sides.

Even the tricky corner slots: nip in –

mirror, signal, manoeuvre –

slickly, unhindered by a cervical spine that crackles.

I was a fearless parker –

parallel to, and six inches from, the kerb –

fast as you like. Better with an audience.

A purist like me didn’t need

power steering or sensors on my bumper.

Not now, though: fatter cars, slimmer slots,

fun-free automotive acrobatics.
